Kev has had a life long relationship with motorbikes. This started on his nephew’s Honda 50cc centrifical drive mini bike, at the age of about seven. As a teenager in the mid 70’s, Kev’s mum would not allow him to have a motorbike, so he had to be satisfied riding mate’s bikes, such as, XL 100’s DT 125’s, and generally a pillion on his neighbours MT125. As an apprentice Boliermaker/Welder in his later teens, Kev spent time on bikes of other apprentices such as, TT 500, XT250 etc. (Kev reckons if he had been allowed his own bike back then, he probably wouldn’t be around today)!!

Kev married his wife Wendy in 1985 and moved from ‘The Land of The Long White Cloud ,’(and incredible twisting roads) to Brisbane. He transferred to Bundaberg  Tafe in 1990 as an Engineering Teacher, and has since worked back in Industry, before commencing as a Manual Arts High School Teacher in 1999. He purchased a DR 250 for transport reasons, which brought back the passion of wanting to ride for leisure. Bikes Kev has owned since have been, Honda 650 Dominators , 89 and 94. 86 FJ1200,  01 Kawasaki ZRX 1200 R, and currently owns two 1100 xx Blackbirds, an 05 and 06. Kev says,” Blackbirds are an awesome bike. Heaps of power, reliability, comfort and great for a pillion.”

Wendy ready to ride

Club members since 2003, Kev and Wendy love riding now their two children have ‘left the roost’, and especially enjoy the friendly, social atmosphere of the club. Their favourite rides are the “overnighters” the club periodically run, as this gives more time for relaxing and socialising in the evening, not to mention the locations that are unavailable in a shorter day ride. They get away on the bike sometimes in the holidays, but generally only for day rides. Kev also enjoys spending time with their Border Collie Charlie,  playing the trumpet, building scale models, especially motorbikes (good stress release), and fishing.

Kev has also been the Club Secretary for the last few years. He  efficiently performs this role so that  all club members are able to have a well run and viable club to ride with.
