Ride to Baffle Creek & Agnes Water/ 1770

15th November 2015

Dale & Anne Maree Munt

Leading up to our ride the weather forecast was a little concerning. A night of scattered rain preceded but it was quite fine when we left Bundy at about 8.45 am on Sunday.

I think a few of us were quite surprised by the turnout of members and guests as 18 bikes left from Quay Street, although we lost one of our guests on the Guzzi to a minor mechanical gremlin early on.

At the Baffle

We arrived at Baffle Creek, going through to Flat Rock where we had a break at Baffle Creek Park where the local boat ramp affords a view of the river.

Leaving the Baffle area, we headed to Agnes Water.  A bit of separation with our group occurred due to some going for fuel at Fingerboard Road and a muffler coming loose, that mechanical gremlin creeping up again!

The group ended up back together at the 1770 Distillery, thanks due in no small part to Karl staying at the corner mark for 15 minutes, waiting in the sun. Coffee and some decadent desserts, then a very informative info session from John, our host, who gave us a little history of his nursery and locally grown fruit based liqueurs along with small tastings of his products rounded out our visit.

Agnes Water views from the hilltop preceded our arrival at The Beach Break Bar for lunch. As the venue is not air-conditioned I was concerned about the heat but a breeze took care of that.

After lunch we rode through Town of 1770, getting split temporarily by a stalled semi and trailer in an awkward spot, but went on to the Joseph Banks Conservation Park for ocean and inlet views.

Dodging showers, we made our way back to the Avondale tavern for our goodbyes and a quick drink. Remarkably, our group all made it home dry, but only just!

A huge downfall of rain drew the curtain on a good days riding
