Bundaberg and District Motorcycle Enthusiasts Club

2016- 2017 Presidents Report.

The club has progressed well in the last 12 months with a varied mix of rides (although some were washed out) and an increased number of members enjoying these. A number of new members have joined the club and contributed to its continuing success. This is reassuring as we enter the 30th year of the club.

As has happened in previous years a core group of members have assisted in the running of the club. Those who lead rides, particularly the overnight rides, do a great service to teh club and all of us. Without these members organising the rides and planning the routes, lunch stops etc. We would have less enjoyment and may not visit as many interesting destinations.

The club could not function without our ride leaders ans many of our rides being led by the same core group who continue to undertake these duties to the betterment of the club and the enjoyment of all members.

Other members contribute by undertaking “tail end charley” duties. By taking on the responsibilities to keep everyone on the right path and assisting with any problems that may be encountered they provide a valuable service which is often overlooked by others. But these members give us all a surety that if something was to occur we won’t be stuck on the side of the road with no one to help. Again the club owes these members a thank you for ensuring that rides run smoothly.

Our corner marking system continues to work well, most of the time. To all those who have waited at a corner for a lengthy period for riders to turn up after problems or traffic delays your efforts are appreciated. As we all should be aware the system is invaluable in ensuring people do not become lost, most of the time.

As I said earlier there has been a number of new faces on our ride sthis last year with a small influx of new members. This “new blood” helps keep the club fresh with new stories and different personalities being added to the mix. These new members have all proven to be welcome additions to the club and have fitted in well with the group and its events.

Speaking of events, those members including partners who have hosted home invasions also deserve to be acknowledged. These are great social outings and are thoroughly enjoyed by those who attend. These and our other “picnic” events help members get tp know each other as well as giving partners the opportunity to joins in club activities. This social interaction may well be one of the reasons the club has survived for so long.

Financially the club appears to be travelling well. While not exactly rolling in cash we are running at a small increase in yearly profits. If we can maintain the momentum we may be able to have a different form of Christmas party this year with the club contributing to the night as was done some years back.

I would also like to thank those of you who regularly attend our meetings. With out this the club could not function as it does. The legal requirements involved in running a club democratically calls for our meeting to ne attended by a certain number of members for  a quorum and those who turn up to meetings ensure that we meet those requirements. They are also instrumental in planning our rides and “picnic” calendars and without their efforts nothing cold be organised.

Unfortunately these same people usually become the ride leaders as someone needs to be nominated and acceptance can only be given by people who are in attendance. Members need to be aware that even if they cannot make the meetings ideas for destinations or offers to lead rides can be passed onto committee members to take to the meetings. If we all contribute, where we are able to, it will lessen the load for others and help everyone further enjoy the club activities.

As in previous years I would like to acknowledge the assistance of committee members in running the club. John A has now completed 8 years as Treasurer and continues to offer to fill this role. John does a great job in tracking every dollar and ensuring the club meets the requirements in paying for insurance, affiliation fees, government fees etc.

Kev Pearcey continues to fulfil the requirements of club Secretary, documentingour records and ensuring correspondence is up to date.

Dale Munt has proven to be an asset to the Vice President. While this role is often overlooked he has been a big help with fresh ideas and a willingness to discuss club matters.

As President it is reassuring to Dale is available and willing to give this helpful feedback as well as displaying a general willingness to help in the smooth operation of the club.

I hope that all members appreciate the efforts of those who perform these duties. I would again like to thank all of you who have assisted me or helped me out in the last 12 months.

This club can continue to be successful as long as we have members who are willing to help and all members appreciate their efforts. I look forward to seeing this continue and the club flourish in future years as it has for nearly thirty years. I hope you all come along for the ride.
